‘Words’ by Trent Everitt
Experience the subtle power of Trent Everitt’s ‘Words’: an exhibit that transcends language barriers, exploring universal human truths and insights through an earnest and personal account.
“I want my photography to be a record of simple things, little things, beautiful things. I want to slow things down. I want the viewer to slow down. We all have our own individual perspectives of this world and my photos are a way of sharing mine.”
These images draw attention to the link between some of the various elements that shape our perceptions of the world. Our choice of words and use of language say more about us than the mere words. Likewise – what we choose to focus our visual attention on shapes how we “view” the world and how we perceive it on other levels.
The words are therefore the starting point, which is somewhat a reversal of the standard practice of having a caption to describe the artwork. Here the visual image – the photograph – is my attempt to describe the words in the caption.
This involves many levels of translation, an idea which fascinates me. I have taken the favourite words from these people, translated them into a different language (English), then translated them again into a different medium (Photography).
A selection of Trent Everitts latest intriguing WORDS series (from China) will feature at July’s Creative Drinks event.
