A massive thanks to everyone who came along and made our Stones Corner relaunch such a creative cracker. The mix of artwork, presentations, groove riddled beats and a really cool crowd barely gave us time to reach the bar (though we got there in the end).

Big thankyous to the T-bar crew for letting us take things over and keep them on their toes for the night. It was encouraging to hear from Brisbane City Councils representatives Athol and Jeremy; speaking their piece on the Creative City initiatives, while the real life heroic tale of Tim Sharp and Laser Beak Mans rise to silver screen domination (with faithful sidekick BigFish) was nothing short of inspirational. Let’s not forget giving props to Rachel for taking us the behind the scenes in her low down on the very cool fourthousand/Right Angle family.

Queensland is now moving towards a preventative approach to job losses, focusing on helping businesses to be resilient to the effects of the global financial crisis and to prepare for the future as conditions improve.

The Creative Industries sector, although relatively new, already adds $1.96 billion to the value of Queensland’s services and manufacturing sectors each year. The Queensland Government has recognised the importance of the Industry by adding it to the Jobs Assist program.
The Queensland Government has implemented the Jobs Assist program that will provide strong support for businesses that have been identified as requiring recognised support services. Jobs Assist will provide support to businesses with 10 or more FTE’s within set Priority Employment Areas or to businesses in other areas with 10 or more FTE employees that are in key sectors considered to be critical or strategic to the State, region or industry eg Creative Industries.
One of our major sponsors, Margin Media, has been awarded professional consultant status to provide such support to eligible businesses and will provide up to $8,000 of assistance to the client funded by the Queensland Government.

Support will be provided in two stages:
Stage 1 will provide up to $3,000 to assist the client to engage Margin Media to conduct an assessment of the client’s business and develop an Online Action Plan to address all strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the business including an effective reporting process and select strategies and actions to support and improve the business.
Stage 2 will provide up to $5,000 to assist the client to implement the activities identified as immediate priority tasks in their Online Action Plan that could include an effective reporting process, through the engagement of Margin Media, to mentor or provide expert advice on the implementation process.

Greg Jackson of Twist Illustration and Design will be showcasing some of his work at our Christmas Party.

Greg ran out of paint at high school but did a little better at art college, majoring in Illustration and graduating from the Qld College of Art in 1983.
After several years living the rock and roll lifestyle and many more years doing print design, he decided to follow his real passion, Illustration.
He began to freelance as Twist Illustration and Design in 1996 and since then has created illustrated images for major Australian magazines, newspapers and book publishers as well as receiving advertising, government and corporate commissions. In recent years Greg has added storyboarding to his services and intends to expand his creative skills into the field of animation.

Growing up in Central America Denis learned to have an appreciation of music from a very early age. “This sense of musicality has driven my passion as a DJ”. Denis has spent a lot of time over the past years experimenting with different styles and methods of playing music, alternating between turntables and digital DJ equipment. Currently Dennis is working with a CD DJ set allowing him to compile and blend a larger variety of music styles.

“My current trend in music styles is a blend of lounge and modern dance with a Latin fusion inspired by my childhood in Central America”. Music has grown from a hobby to a passion for Dennis, which he hopes to explore and delve deeper into over the next few years.

Dirty Mex will be one of our DJ’s at the Creative Drinks Christmas party.
