June Featured Artist – Ricardo Gomes

Our June 2011 event will be showcasing the work of the extraordinary Ricardo Gomes.

Ricardo Gomes is a photographer originally from Portugal and currently settled in Brisbane, Australia.

Ricardo completed a diploma in Graphic Design in 1999 and later, in 2009, completed a bachelor in Photography and Cinematography in the school of music and visual arts in Oporto, Portugal.

Ricardo is passionate in all fields of visual arts, exploring different mediums such as graphic design, digital art & video – but it is photography that provides the best format for his expression. Having explored all forms of photography such as photojournalism, fashion, landscape and architecture it is portraiture where Ricardo has found his little spot in the sunshine.

Alison Mooney is a Toowoomba-based painter and curator.

Predominantly self taught, she has been exhibiting and selling works consistently since early 2009, when she first started sharing her work publicly.

Her works are characterised by a bold use of layering, colour, line and subtle satire.

Alison has works in private collections nationally as well as in Japan, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.

As a curator, Alison works with Toowoomba cafe and function space, Metro Cafe and Events. Into the second year of their partnership, these shows have exhibited the works of over 60 local artists across six seasonal, themed shows. OPening nights, which incorporate local live music, performance and art, have regularly attract crowds upwards of 60 people.

Artists are invited to exhibit and create pieces to a common theme for these exhibitions which have been well recieved by the local community.

They seem to have also stimulated creation and experimentation within the town’s creative community.

2011 promises the expansion of these shows into a more comprehensive contribution to the local scene with plans to implement artist residencies, workshops, artist talks and toured exhibitions.

SHAELAH ARIOTTI

Born and raised in central Queensland, Shaelah moved to Brisbane to study and is a 2008 graduate of a Bachelor of Photography at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, and her major is Creative Advertising in Fashion.

Shaelah’s dream is to become an internationally renowned and respected fashion photographer who has a sphere of influence great enough to effect immense change in the world through an unexpected source.

It is not usually expected that fashion be anything other than superficial and that is why it has such potential to transform ideas.

Tyler Alberti – Photographer

Having worked in the field of live concert photography for a number of years, Tyler
fell into the music photographer role quite quickly.

His experience has led him to other areas and most recently as on-set photographer for short films.
He has been commissioned to complete include fashion portfolios, awards nights and school formals and product documentation. Keeping a range of photography broad and applying lighting skills across all
areas of  photography rather than specializing in any one genre. His work reflects a broad range of content with a vivid and punchy feel; using a number of lighting techniques to create vibrant and contrasting images.

We can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for the Gallery Space at Bleeding Heart next week!

Creative Drinks Christmas Party is proud to see Jayden Osborne in the mix for our festive celebrations.

Jayden is a freelance graphic designer, working under the design guise, Arcadia Creative.  His diverse practice includes advertising, branding, fashion, music, typography and web design.

From small jobs to extensive branding projects, he creates unique design solutions that help clients fly from the precipice, transforming newborn ideas into fully-fledged projects with tangible results.

Jayden especially enjoys working with clients in industries that correlate with his personal interests, i.e.; music, fashion, surf, skate and lifestyle related.

Our good friend and Creative Drinks designer Yarron Frauenfelder is on the wall for our Christmas Party… well his work is anyway.

Neu Creative is the graphic design platform for Yarron, a Brisbane based graphic designer. With local and international clients, Neu Creative works in areas of art direction, design, image making and motion.  His clients come from sectors that include music, fashion, art and culture.

Yarron has been super busy lately with work around town on everything from buses to breasts (PG rated, of course).  You will just have to come along to the Christmas Party to find out all the details.

Founded by Jordin Steele, the Outcast Opera Company is a new Brisbane based performance group that gives artists and designers an opportunity to collaborate and push the boundaries of classical music. Created specifically for emerging local performers Outcast aims to create exciting new opera projects that are not limited by traditional forms or instrumentation but still retain the integrity and beauty of classical voice.

Outcast is a home for those who are tired of the stagnant world of continuously recycled opera, about breaking tradition and about fusing the electronic to the beauty of the human voice and form.

The company is currently working on its first major production ‘Bedlam’ which is set to premiere in 2011. This production, by a local composer, has been commissioned specifically for the Outcast aesthetic and will include performers from a variety of disciplines including dance, circus and burlesque.

“Many photographers tend to spit out the cliche of their love for photographs because they represent a ‘moment in time’ captured that will never happen again. But what about the photos that capture two moments in time? Or even more than that? This exhibit, titled >60 seconds, showcases some of my favourite ultra-long exposure work, which is comprised totally of photos that have been taken over the space of 60 seconds or longer. For me, photographs that capture such a long period of time completely transform anything in motion within a scene no matter how fast or slow the movement – violent waves disappear into fog while stars become rotating streaks of light.”

Andrew Tallon is a young engineering student who is passionate about photography as both a serious hobby and potential career. He mainly shoots event, wedding and commercial work but also loves to shoot in the landscape, urban and travel genres whenever he gets a spare moment.

Moonshine Madness was founded by Mel Baxter in 2009 whilst on an East Coast road trip through the wineries of the Granite Belt. Mel, who’d been designing part time for musicians for over 6 years, had the idea that Brisbane needed a business that specialised in artwork for the music industry.

Whilst sculling down a favourite Heritage Estate port, similarly named “Moonshine Madness,”  the business idea was titled and confirmed; Moonshine Madness- ART for MUSIC, would provide affordable and quality artwork and photography for musicians, industry professionals, and creative entities.

KOOKS Director Rick Chazan says, Mel is at the vanguard of Brisbane’s creative scene. She is a designer, artist, photographer, stylist and creative entrepreneur. She’s curated art shows for CURVY, Frankie Magazine, Dane Beesley, as well as her own signature art show The Versus Show; which is a collaborative exhibition featuring music, art, creative culture and media. She has the knack for bringing something original and individual for every piece of work she undertakes.  The images that Mel creates are strikingly retro and yet similarly forward thinking have also been praised by Faux Magazine, UK.

With the discovery of the new name and business concept, Mel has decided the only way to make it official is to celebrate – with a night of music, design, installations, performance, and explosions; all happening in the carpark of The Alley on the night of Creative Drinks 14.10.10.
